I was born in British Guyana, South America.
My father was one of the true last adventurers, which meant living and traveling to new and exotic countries all over the world.
Most of my education was spent in British schools. After graduating as a social worker it was soon evident that this was not my passion. I spent the next twenty years of my life dedicated to family and horses. Anyone, who has ever worked with horses understands the uncomplicated purely instinctual way that a horse deals with events. This knowledge heightened my own awareness of paying attention to the small, seemingly unintentional moments in life.
These formative years spent overseas are where my inspirations for my artwork came to be. It was traveling to these countries where I noticed that we, as North Americans, are missing some very important lessons on slowing down and enjoying the simple things in life. We are so busy we forget to stop and reflect. We rarely spend time being alone; walking through a museum; going for a quiet walk and really listening, we are not realizing the importance these times of reflections can be. I want to take people to a place that helps them feel.
For as long as I can remember I have always had an appreciation for art. Sketching was always a part of my life but not until later in life did I really discover oils. I still feel that my greatest challenge as a painter is to transfer the feelings of calm and serenity onto canvas and thus invite the observer to experience the moment with me.
"The Seaside Days", a series of original impressionist oil paintings by Leah Anderson, are currently featured at Fairweather House & Garden. The focus of this series is a collection of mostly women and children along the Seaside seashore. These beautiful original and giclee prints are available for purchase. Anderson's paintings are also reproduced on cards, individually or in packages of six. |
